Scientific American has a great feature in their June issue on 5 ways to spot a faked photo:

1. Lighting: directional sources, shadows, etc

2. Eyes and positions

3. Specular highlights: the light reflection, especially around the iris

4. Cloning in crowds (check out the photo from Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign)

5. camera fingerprints
