Following the astounding success of the Prius and the slowing sales of big vehicles, more carmakers are designing efficient cars, trying to design the next green car.
Olivier Frémont, head of Créapôle’s [a leading French school for car design]
department of transport design, said: “Four or five years ago much of our design work was focused on the Chinese and emerging markets. But in the last three years or so trends have radically changed as designers have become much more ecologically minded.”
He added, “We are regularly looking to simplify the vehicle whether it be outside or inside,” and he said that “we are coming back to basic questions of what is actually useful inside the vehicle, what we actually need.”
